In a groundbreaking effort to shed light on the empowerment landscape for Nigerian women, Women Aid Africa recently collaborated with NOI Polls to conduct a comprehensive survey. The report, titled “Changing the Narrative of the Nigerian Woman: Understanding Her Needs, Her Aspirations, and Her Opportunities,” delves into the multifaceted experiences and challenges faced by women across the country.
On April 17th, key stakeholders convened to discuss the findings and explore inclusive strategies for transforming the narrative surrounding Nigerian women. Among the esteemed panelists were Olafunke Baruwa, a Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist; Nwanne Okafor, a Victimologist and Criminal Justice Professional; and Dr. Yetunde Ayo-Oyalowo, CEO of Market
Doctors.
The survey unearthed critical insights into the diverse needs, aspirations, and opportunities of Nigerian women. From economic empowerment to social inclusion and access to justice, the report offers a comprehensive overview of the multifaceted dimensions of women’s empowerment in Nigeria.
Olafunke Baruwa, bringing her expertise as a Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist, highlighted the importance of implementing inclusive policies and programs that address the unique challenges faced by women from various backgrounds. Nwanne Okafor emphasized the need for a victim-centered approach in the criminal justice system to ensure equitable
access to justice for women.
Dr. Yetunde Ayo-Oyalowo shared insights from her experience as CEO of Market Doctors, underscoring the significance of economic opportunities in empowering Nigerian women and driving socio-economic development.
The dialogue among these thought leaders underscored the urgency of collective action to dismantle barriers and create an enabling environment for women to thrive. By amplifying the voices and experiences of Nigerian women, we can pave the way for a more equitable and inclusive society.
As we reflect on the findings of the Women Empowerment Perception Survey, it’s clear that there is still much work to be done. However, with continued collaboration and commitment, we can chart a path towards a brighter and more equitable future for Nigerian women.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive positive change and advocate for the empowerment of women across Nigeria. Together, we can truly change the narrative and create a more inclusive society for all.
